These particular Etuis are a copy of a 19th Century sailor's box and feature gold coloured stork embroidery scissors with Liberty print rabbit attachment, a measuring tape both metric and imperial, shirt buttons, mending thread, sewing needles, dressmaking pins, gold safety pins and a thimble. 

 

Original boxes would have been made of leather and taken on voyages by 19th Century sailors for the repair of ships’ sails. An original box may be seen in the Gyffre Museum in London.
